I have wanted to write this blog since the announcement of Google Glass.

Don’t get me wrong to against E-volution; I just wonder about E-polluion.  I am just amazed by how many hours in our entire day we are dealing with the devices.  Can you imagine how can you live without those devices?

From your ears to your eyes, we have Google Goggles, high performance earphones, from the wrist to your hand, we have Nike fuelband or Fitbit and we have so many devices such as Kindle, Ipad, Galaxy, phone, and laptop. You can see everyone in the train has one of those.  At home we also have three to four devices.  Even when you are asleep, some people use devices to track sleep quality.  I recently saw a necklace that can track dogs’ activity - the e-pollutions are even invading dogs!

We have the Samsung Watch coming out! It is very cool that you don’t have to get out your Galaxy Note III you can do some real business including answer your phone, calendar reminder, weather forecast on your watch and even take “spy” pictures from your watch.

Finally we have iphone 5s and 5c colorful phones, $599 price tried to go to the "cheap" phone segment? Really, you think $599 is cheap?

I am amazed how advanced our technologies are that we have so many interesting toys to improve our life convenience and change our behavior. Our lives actually have been E-voluted by high technologies.

However, have you thought whether it is necessary. Does it have some overlap with your current devices? The laziness of your behavior that won’t take out your phone will cost you $1500 of a glass and a $300 of watch, are they worthy?  Do you really need an new and colorful iphone? I just hope the devices developing could be like civil engineering to plan it better for what is necessary consumer needs.  At least some functions will not be overlapping, so that besides the rich people and early adopters, regular people won’t need spend too much time on deciding which device to choose, and they are also able to enjoy the technology evolution.

Have you thought about how much time you are wasting by waiting for things? Waiting for the result and approval, waiting for the seats and bus, waiting at the casher in the supermarket, waiting for a new product launched, and waiting for the people you love and baby you expected.

There is a novel “Waiting” talking about a woman waiting for love and settle down to be married for 30 years.  You will be amazed how can she wait for 30 years, but when you add the total waiting time you have wasted, you will also be surprised how much time you have wasted, and how much mental energy you have spent on waiting.  I need to wait 10 hours on the flight from US to China!

If you can calculate, you had waste one hour/day, which is at least,  until your 70-year-old you had already wasted 3 years.  If we can use those waiting time or shorten those waiting time, our lives and work will be so much more efficient.  It needs more people cooperate, better communicate, transparent system, and better plan.  Technology will definitely be helpful, apps will tell us how many minutes we need to wait for the bus, and whether we have seats immediately at the restaurant. Even recently we don’t need to wait for the check at a restaurant; just pay on the mobile when you finish eating.

Time is limited. Are there better solutions to minimize the time you are waiting?  People who can solve the waiting / wasting problem are essentially inventing time machines.

Where does people’s energy come from?  Sometimes you have energy naturally, you feel powerful, motivated and positive, but sometimes you just feel lazy and want to take it easy. Here are some ideas where energy comes from.

Natural Energy

I was told some people are dedicated to be successful by birth.  They have a strong physical body, they have natural motivation, they manage everything very well.  They are so lucky that they might just need 8 mins to fall in sleep, and 4 hours to sleep, and then can be energetic for the other 20 hours of the day.  Thus they have more time than other people to work, enjoy and do more things -Please envy them. However, if you prepare to be a mother to give birth to your baby, do everything to prepare to have a strong baby to add chance to let them have a natural energy and win from the starting point.

The people you hang out with, the company you work, the family you live with will influence your attitude and your mood.  If you have a competitive working environment, you will work hard, trying to show your best as well.  If you have spouse with a high energy entrepreneur spirit, you will always have multination to pay attention to the new tech and look into some new business ideas too.  So look for an atmosphere not to drawn your energy.

I wanted to put workout here, but without running, I feel weak, sick, and lazy.  I walk the dog, play golf, and play tennis, but those activities are not strong enough to motivate me.  After running, I feel I am capable for working for the day, but if the weather doesn’t allow me to run, I just feel lazy and don’t want to do anything.  After half marathon, I feel I can challenge some difficulties.  After full marathon, I feel I can make everything possible.  However, I haven’t run races for two years, and I lost the feeling being strong.

You always need to have new hope to ensure that you need energy to push you to your goal and hope. After one hope has to be reached, you establish another new hope. Life is an unlimited desirable journey, you need to have all the new and big hopes to attract you to go forward.

Right now, it’s a raining and slow season in New York; let’s keep motivated and high energy to enjoy your work and your life.

Are you happy? It’s a simple question, but it is difficult to answer.

People have different expectations of happiness.  My mom thinks if relatives don’t have troubles in life, her daughter is healthy and will have a baby soon – that can be defined as happiness.  I am thinking that I can marry a reliable man as my husband and meet true love is happiness. My software friend @Leonmax thinks that working on the projects he has passion on, even though he worked super overtime, is a kind of happiness.

Think how many hours in your entire day you are happy? When you are getting up, working, commuting, or at home,  are you happy all the time?  I have to say, People who enjoy the work will feel happy most of the time.  Why, they don’t need work-life balance anymore, because they combine the work and life together.  When they are working, they devote their passion on it.  When they are on the way home, they’re still composing the data, or listening business books via Audible.   When they are at home, they are still thinking about how to improve the idea and strategy for work.  Many people are struggling with time, money, life, or stress to make their feel happier.  But people who enjoy the work don’t need to give up too many things.  Their happiness on the work can convert to the efficiency to work.  They are enjoying the life with the work at this moment.

I hope everyone can enjoy what they are working on.  Even though the circumstance sometime don’t allow us to choose whatever we like to work.  But don’t give up the goal and dream.  Life is short, try to enjoy it.

A lot of my friends in the US suggested that I should try English doctors rather than Chinese speaking doctors.  I was nervous about whether I could totally understand what they said regarding some more technical terminology.  But my friends said it is their job to explain to you until you understand, it is also a step of my “Americanization” process, which I will accept American Medical and Health Care system since I am in the US.

I have to say, my initial worries were not necessary. The doctors here are so nice, unlike ones in China who are always blaming patients as if they were  unapproving parents.  Doctors in the US treat patients as their parents instead. They speak to me so gently, and very professionally explain the vocabulary to me even known by American middle-school students.  The facilities in the US are also so advanced.  I even can watch Netflix in some of the clinics.

Sometime, as a foreigner, if you don’t have the courage to try the local things, you will never know if it is actually pretty good for you, or better or much better than you had experienced in your own country.  If you never tried daily things and step your toe into the “water” to test it, you will never get the chance to know what really a local people will do; thus you will never belong to the local society.

February is my favorite Month.  It is nice and short  - a lot of things to celebrate: Valentines, my birthday, my dating anniversary, and sometimes we have Chinese New Year in February.   I also think we are so lucky that we work less days in February than a typical month, but we still get the same amount of salary.  However, I think the short month also applies to the payment, such as rent and gym membership, also you could end up spend more on holiday celebration.  If you  have some projects, it also allows you have less time to finish your goal. I guess it is fair, just couldn’t figure out why Febuary is shorter than any other months.

I am really good at Math, but I couldn’t figure out which one, Money or Time is more priority for me.

I went to do laundry every weekend.  In New York City, if you do it yourself in the community laundry room, it will save more than half of cost when you send them to the laundry shop to have them washed,  folded, and delivered to your door.  We are talking about $8 vs. $ 18.  But for $10 you don’t have to go to one block away laundry room three times totally about 2.5 hours and fight for washing machines with other people.   People said it is not a difficult question, just spend $10 and relax.  But living in Manhattan you have to be frugal, for a month you can save $40, for a year, you can save $480, and on weekend, you have to admit that you sometimes have extra time available, which doesn’t create any value.

The same thinking applies to go to Target trip (I call it a "trip") for grocery shopping, spending 1.5 hours on the bus to save about $30 per trip, versus ordering online with minimum $49 to be able to qualified on free shipping on Soap.com.  It’s really hard to balance which way provides more life time value (at least living in New York City).

I hope some Math geeks can come up with a Money –Time Formula, put a lot of elements in to it and analyze which way will bring more life time value.  A Chinese concept describes life as a complicated book, I guess who can figure it out, can win Noble Prize for Peace.  Or maybe it is only the confusing question for low-to-middle class that the value difference between time and money are not too significant... What do you think?

Last Sunday, I went to a Lululemon Free Yoga Class for the first time.  The level of the Lululemon class is in the very high level in terms of the attendees and the difficulty of the class.  The yoga teacher gave very fast instructions in original Yoga terminology with few demonstrations.  But most all of the Yogis can follow the instruction and even half of them can do the crane pose and the hand-stand.

Similar to when I’ve tried other yoga studios or gyms in the city, I feel I couldn’t show off my flexibility or yaga skills any more and can barely do some of the very difficult poses (e.g. the hand stand). More and more, Western girls and women have become really flexible and powerful by practicing Yoga; whereas 5 years ago, I could totally show off in every yoga studio as an Asian person,  while American complained their genetic body is not flexible at all, who barely touch their foot bending over.  Through long years healthy concentration and yoga practice, a lot of Americans can show off their yoga skill in front of Asian People.  I even feel threatened how strong their core strengths are.

Genetic condition is bullshit, fate is crap, which are the excuses or boundaries prevent people to conquer the challenges.  You can change your genetic condition through smart practice.  You can change your fate by your continuous efforts.  I have trained to be a strong marathon runner, who once caught colds almost once every month.  I came to US to realize my American dream by my strong determination and persistent trying.

You can change the fate, if you want to, if you put in your effort, if you try hard and smartly.  Stop complaining about the situation or condition any more. Human Beings mean to dominate your own life and fate. As my mom always says, “whatever the path you are going, it is your own choice.”
